New Addition Coming Soon!

In my last blog, I was working on the purchase of a 1970’s Grover stuffed toy.

There was one item that was set up at auction with a starting bid of $19.99, but it also had the option to submit a best offer; plus $13.40 shipping. There were no watchers and no bids at the time. The auction still had a couple of days to go so instead of bidding, and having to wait a couple of days, I submitted an offer of $21, thinking the buyer would quickly accept the offer since there were no watchers or bids. I have had this happen before where the seller grabs the opportunity to get it sold when there are no watchers.

Well, soon after this, another seller of a Grover stuffed toy that was pretty much the same quality, sent me an offer of $20; plus the exact same shipping of $13.40. But, since I had already submitted the offer to the other seller for $21, I couldn’t accept it.

After nearly two days with no word from the seller that I submitted the offer to, I finally realized this seller was not going to accept or decline any offers until the auction was over. With about three hours left to go, I decided to find out what would happen if I placed a bid on him. Nobody else has placed a bid yet so I submitted a bid for $19.99, the starting bid. I did not bother with a higher max bid as there were still no watchers and because I had the offer from the other seller for $20. I wasn’t going to bid more than $20 anyway because I knew that even if I lost the auction, I still had one available for $20 anyway from the other seller. So I wasn’t worried about losing the auction.

I was not sure if I would even be allowed to submit a bid after submitting the offer to the seller. But once I submitted my bid, it automatically canceled my previous offer of $21! I was totally surprised! I guess when you submit an offer on something that is posted at auction PLUS best offer, all offers will auto-decline if ANYONE bids on the item! Cool! I was so happy it canceled my offer! I ended up getting him for $1.01 less! The auction ended with me as the winner for $19.99. No surprises there as there were still no other watchers when the auction ended. Once I won the auction and paid for it, I declined the other offer.

But I bet the seller now wishes they had accepted my offer of $21 when I submitted it! Well, that’s what happens when you are a seller who decides to hold off on an offer in case a better deal comes along with the auction, but with no watchers at time of offer! LOL! The main reason I offered more was so I wouldn’t have to wait for two days until the auction ended. Since I had to wait anyway, glad I submitted the bid and won! Yay!

I can’t wait to display him in my tiny nursery with the rest of my collection! He will look so cute there!

  1. Isn't he adorable!!! -A fabulous price as well!!! ...And at least he doesn't have a coat hanger for armatures like Carol's had! I do believe hers took a trip through the washing machine and emerged entirely water-logged. His head was so heavy that it no longer stood upright. Rather than put him inside of a tied-off pillowcase (an entirely safe way to wash and dry plushies btw), they rushed to conclusions and opted for surgery instead. Removed the vast majority of his stuffing and inserted an old wire hanger. Do you remember this? She took that Grover everywhere. I am not sure whether she still has it or not. I'd have to ask. Her Grover was never the same. The paint on his eyeballs had also washed off. So, they used black duct tape, cut into circles and place them over his original eyes. I am a bit of a perfectionist and never would have been okay with any of it. But she apparently was. I am so glad you finally got yours! Can't wait to see him!
